Today the settlements of Atzmona, Slav/Shalev (same spelling in Hebrew), and Katif are to be evacuated. Tomorrow is the turn of the final settlement: Netzarim, which has been in the news quite a bit over the years because of terrorist attacks. There are conflicting reports whether or not the Netzarim residents will be voluntarily evacuated on Monday.
Today the government is supposed to vote on approval of these remaining evacuations, as well as those of three Northern Gaza settlements (Nissant, Dugit, and Elei Sinai) that are already almost empty. The vote is expected to be a mere formality.
Later in the week, as early as Tuesday, is the turn of the Northern West Bank settlements of Chomesh and Sa-Nur. (Kadim and Ganim have already been evacuated voluntarily.) Especially Sa-Nur is expected to get violent, as some 2,000 "hilltop youth" (polite term for the riffraff that is responsible for essentially all of the violence so far) have slipped into the place.
The Channel 10 studio has a couple of evacuees from Neve Dekalim with a billion complaints. Apparently they had expected a complete city of villas to be pre-built (and perhaps pre-equipped) especially for them, and evacuation to be held up until this was ready. And of course, they would not (Heaven forbid!) turn to the Disengagement Authority and coordinate with them! Excuse me folks, which parallel Universe do you live in?!
A respresentative of the residents of Atzmona (to be evacuated today) explained they likewise wanted no truck with the Disengagement Authority (at least until its head, Yonatan Bassi, was replaced by somebody more acceptable to them [sigh]), but organized their own temporary housing without relying on government largesse.
Another theme that keeps recurring: apparently everybody is sore afraid of the Special Patrol Unit (yasa"m, letterword for Yechidat Siyur Meyuchad in Hebrew).
Finally, in Rechovot two youth age 17 and 19 have been arrested in connection with an attempt to set off a major gas explosion in "protest" against the Disengagement.
